Thank you for considering participating in New Hampshire Housing Authority’s annual statewide Residential Rental Cost Survey! Each year, we ask residential rental property owners and managers who own or manage rental property in New Hampshire to take this survey and assist us in tracking rental housing costs and important state housing data.
Instructions at the end of the document will guide you through the next steps if you choose to participate. Participation is voluntary. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
What is the NH Residential Rental Cost Survey, and who is conducting the research for it?
Since 1980, New Hampshire Housing has conducted an annual statewide survey of rental housing costs. This important data assists us in tracking rental unit costs, which we compile in a report for property owners, the public, businesses, public officials and organizations that administer housing programs. We’ve been a trusted source of housing data for more than 40 years.
NH Housing contracts with Kate Kirkwood Consulting and the UNH Survey Center to conduct the survey on our behalf. Both entities are authorized by New Hampshire Housing to conduct this work. Your input as a property owner or manager is invaluable in shaping our understanding of the residential rental market in New Hampshire.
Will I be paid to take part in this survey?
As an acknowledgement and to show our appreciation, when a survey is completed, you will be entered in a raffle to win a $100 Amazon eGift card. By completing all survey fields, you will receive an additional entry into the drawing, thus doubling your chances of winning.. In June, we'll randomly select and notify 30 participants who will receive a gift card.
Will the information I submit be kept confidential?
Yes. Your responses to the survey will be collected and kept secure at all times. At no time will any identifiable information of a participant be used. Additionally, your computer’s IP address is not collected. Each response is assigned a subject number, ensuring anonymity. We'll store the key code linking your responses to your identity separately in a password-protected file, which will be securely destroyed once the data analysis is complete.

Instructions
For the purpose of this survey, a "residential rental property" refers to any property or location in which the owner/manager receives payment from the occupant(s)/tenant in return for a non-commercial living space.
A "unit" refers to the area for which a single tenant pays rent, for example, an apartment, one half of a duplex unit, a mobile home, or a single-family home.
Section 8 voucher units ARE considered market rate-units for this survey.
Please answer the following questions to the best of your ability for each property you own/manage. Do not include information for other rented spaces you may own that do not meet the survey criteria, such as units which are not being rented out at market rate(subsidized), or units not being rented in NH. Examples of this include: being owner/manager occupied, rented to family or friend at a dramatically reduced price, or undergoing extensive remodeling/renovations that will prevent the unit from being rented in the next six months.
Rent restricted/rent-assisted units are units for which you do not set the rent or those not rented at market rate due to a government subsidy.
Please Note: Section 8 Voucher housing does not fall under this criteria as the rent is determined by the owner/manager and not the unit, meaning the actual unit is still set at a market rate.
